The Stock Market Challenge provides an opportunity to learn, firsthand, about the trading floor in a fun-filled, fast-paced setting. It also provides an opportunity to build rapport among team members as well as promote our corporate sponsors and participants. Two separate events are held: high school students participate in the afternoon and the adult teams compete in the evening.

The event is centered on a stock market simulation in which participating teams trade shares on a stock exchange. The goal of each team is to accumulate the highest possible net worth prior to the close of trading. Each student team can purchase up to $500,000 worth of stock in a variety of fictitious companies and trade stocks throughout the 60 one-minute trading rounds.

The SUCCESSFUL strategy is always to BUY LOW AND SELL HIGH! "Traders" equipped with wireless, hand-held computers roam the trading floor taking orders from teams. They then relay those buy-sell orders to the computer database where they are tracked and team results and rankings are displayed on a large projection screen. Other projection screens identify the current trading day, stock pricing, and stock performance. The atmosphere is much like the real trading floor: lots of noise and enthusiasm enhanced by state-of-the-art computer technology.

The adult teams agreed to sponsor teams from area high schools, who participated in a student version of the Stock Market Challenge.
